This database contains the current C-NPU coded properties as of 2004-09-01. The database may also be downloaded as a zipped XML file.
The database is searchable by C-NPU code (e.g. NPU01234) or by the elements of which the properties consist (e.g. blood). The results of queries can be downloaded.
This interface to the C-NPU database will require the use of at least version 4 of Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. It is however recommended that at least version 5.5 of Internet Explorer and version 6.2 of Netscape Navigator is used as some facilitating functions of this interface relies on features of these more current browsers.
To search for properties by C-NPU code, enter the code in the field "Search for properties by NPU code:". The code can be entered with or without a leading NPU, i.e. both 1234 and NPU01234 are valid inputs. After entering the code, the display format may be choosen. Currently one may choose between XML, HTML and Microsoft® Excel formats. After format has been choosen pressing the "Go" button will display the property in a new window, if a property exists for the code entered.
To search for properties by element names, first enter the name of the element in the field "Search for properties by element:". The percent sign (%) or asterisk (*) may be used as a wildcard character. The search may be limited to one specific element type, e.g. the search could be limited to elements appearing as systems in C-NPU properties by selecting "System only" in the list box next to the element name field. To execute the query, press the "Go" button.
By checking the box "Search within results of the previous query", a search for the intersection ("AND") of more than one element name is possible. A maximum of three queries can be added together. E.g., to search for properties with the system Blood and the component Glucose, first search for blood as a component by entering blood in the element field and by selecting "System only" and press the "Go" button. Then enter glucose in the element field, check the "Search within results of the previous query" box, select "Component only" and press "Go". The search may also be limited to certain specialties by checking the boxes under "Restrict to certain specialties:"
To display a specific property, click on the property in the list below the search form. If the result set contains more than 20 properties, the result will be divided into pages of 20 properties each.
To download the results of a query right click (i.e. press the right mouse button) on the "Download" link and select "Save Target As..." (or something similar depending on which browser is used). This will download all propeties, not just the propeties displayed on the current page. If the left mouse button is clicked the properties will be displayed in the current browser window. It is not recommended to download large result sets. The whole database can be downloaded separately.
